The Laguna Madre Softball League wrapped up its regular season this past Wednesday, Oct. 30.
Entering its sophomore season, the league saw Texas Made depart, but welcomed five new teams to the field, bringing the league to 12 teams.
The new competition entered the season eager to challenge the reigning Season One champs, Cantu’s.
However, when the final game of the regular season was played, Cantu’s remained the top dog in the park, completing another dominant season with an undefeated 10-0 record.
Meanwhile, two of the league’s new teams, Powerhouse and Kings, made an immediate impact, finishing tied for second place with 7-3 records.
Sitting in fourth place, the Bandidos entered the final night hoping to maintain their position or perhaps move up in the standings. Their first game of the night was against the late-blooming, Brew Crew.
The Bandidos were well aware of Brew Crew’s recent surge and didn’t take their opponent lightly. They came out swinging from the start as they jumped out to a 7-1 lead after the first inning.
In the second inning, the Bandidos continued to dial up the singles and runs. Meanwhile, Brew Crew continued to struggle generating offense, and a handful of fielding errors added to their troubles as the Bandidos extended their lead to 12-1.
In the third inning, Bandidos’ Isaac Ochoa sent a deep ball to the outfield. Although the ball was caught, it was deep enough to bring in another run as the Bandidos closed out the inning with a commanding 15-2 lead.
The Brew Crew managed to hit an inside-the-park-home run in the fifth inning, but they still trailed 18-4.
The Bandidos seemed to take offense to that homer, answering with an inside-the-park-home run of their own in the sixth inning. They added a few more runs before closing out the game with a dominating 24-4 victory.
The Bandidos held firm in the standings, finishing tied for fourth place with the Hitmen, as both teams posted 6-4 records.
The middle of the pack featured Coming in Hot, Swingers, and Ballahollics who finished tied for sixth place at 5-5.
The Brew Crew finished in ninth, followed by Hopper Haus 3-7. Rounding out the standings were Star Playaz and Spicy Cats, who both finished with 1-9 records.
For the time being, the leagues’ end-of-the-season tournament has been postponed till next week due to the recent severe weather.
On a side note, the League has already started a new league which is playing on Tuesdays.
