Expert speakers on tap at 31st annual conference; offering 11 hours of continuing education credits for physicians, pleasant beach-side setting; presented by Knapp Medical Center
South Padre Island, Texas – How artificial intelligence may affect healthcare in positive and negative ways – as well as potential effects of AI that are yet to be determined — will be one of the topics at the 31st Annual Rio Grande Valley Medical Education Conference & Exposition to be held at South Padre Island on Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25.
Up to 11 continuing medical education credits for physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers will be available during the iconic event at the Courtyard by Marriott, 6700 Padre Blvd., South Padre Island.
A nationally-known motivational speaker, Dr. Harvey Castro, will discuss the amazing potential – and possible pitfalls – of applying artificial intelligence to healthcare … along with advancements that AI will rapidly bring to the patient exam room – “ready or not.”
Dr. Castro is an emergency medicine physician from the Dallas area who frequently speaks on AI as a healthcare consultant and executive coach. He is a recognized leader in the field of AI and healthcare. In addition to being a dynamic speaker, Dr. Castro has made appearances on national TV, including CBS, ABC, FOX, NBC, Univision, and Telemundo; as well as on the “Good Morning, Texas” show, which airs on WFAA-TV in Dallas.
During a prior appearance at last year’s physician conference at the Island, Dr. Castro “wowed” attendees during a fast-paced, hands-on, interactive presentation demonstrating the amazing technological advances and medical innovation that is on the horizon — as AI begins to make a potentially-transformative impact on healthcare.
Additional speakers at this April’s conference will include Adrian Sandoval, PharmD, who will speak on the equally-timely topic of weight-loss medications — during a presentation entitled “Tipping the Scales: Patient Safety Considerations in Weight-Loss Pharmacotherapy.”
A wide variety of medical topics will be covered by other speakers at the conference, including Dr. E. Linda Villarreal, Internal Medicine Physician with WellMed Medical Management in Edinburg, who will speak on “Value Based Care – Something for Everyone”. Dr. Villarreal previously served as president of the Texas Medical Association.
