The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) recently conducted a Hazard Communication (HazCom) inspection at the City of San Benito’s Water Plant and Wastewater Treatment Plant.
According to City of San Benito officials, both facilities were found to be fully compliant and met all applicable safety requirements.
HazCom inspections are conducted to ensure that facilities handling chemicals properly identify, label, store, and manage hazardous materials in accordance with state and federal safety standards.
The inspections also review employee training, safety data sheets, and procedures designed to protect workers, the public, and the environment, according to a City of San Benito news release.
“Our water and wastewater operators carefully review chemical safety data sheets and inspect every chemical delivery to ensure the correct products are used and handled properly, helping prevent reactions or spills,” said Julio Gonzales, City of San Benito Water Treatment Plant Superintendent.
“Safety is a top priority for the City of San Benito,” he added.
DSHS inspectors confirmed that City staff are following required safety protocols, maintaining proper documentation, and training related to chemical use and handling at both locations.
“The City of San Benito remains committed to maintaining safe, compliant operations at all critical infrastructure facilities and prioritizing the health and safety of employees and residents,” the press release states.
