This past Thursday, March 12 the Port Isabel ECHS boys and girls track teams traveled to La Feria to compete in the La Feria Jim Hudson Relays. Hundreds of athletes representing 14 RGV schools competed in the meet.
Here are the results from the PI boys’ division.
In the 100 Meter Dash, Bryan Martinez came in 15th place with a time of 12.92 seconds, a split second ahead of teammate Elijah Alvarez who was timed at 13.07s.
In the 200 Meter Dash, Martinez improved to 7th place with a time of 24.29 seconds. Meanwhile, Armani Reyna finished 17th with a time of 26.23s and Alvarez was 18th with a time of 26.27s.
In the 400 Meter Dash, Luis Ramos won the gold medal with a time of 51.36 seconds. He was followed by Mikel Sosa (4th/53.89s) and Jesus Ramos (11th/56.14s).
In the 800 Meter Run, Kingston Lane came in 10th place with a time of 2:18.30 minutes.
In the 1600 Meter Run, Lane came in 11th place with a time of 5:28.31 minutes, just ahead of teammate freshman Jordan Badillo who finished 12th with a time of 5:29.53m.
In the 3200 Meter Run, Badillo came in 7th place with a time of 10:45.64 minutes, and Jorge Garcia came in 11th with a time of 12:57.87m.
In the relay runs, the 4×100 relay team came in 6th place with a time of 46.58 seconds, and the 4×200 relay team came in 7th with a time of 1:38.79 minutes. On an eye-opening event, the PI 4×400 relay team managed to win gold with a time of 3:30.41 minutes, upsetting the Los Fresnos team who won the previous two relays.
In the Long Jump event, Tristan Green came in 4th place with a distance of 19’-8.50”, and J. Ramos was tied for 5th with a distance of 18’-5.00”.
In the Discus event, Joseph Martinez won the silver medal with a distance of 141’-4.00”. Also competing were Jahi Vasquez (6th/122’-3.00”) and Alvaro Rocha (13th/95’-3.00”).
Vasquez then won gold in the Shot Put event with a throw of 43’-10.50”.
The following are the results for the PI girls.
In the 100 Meter Dash, Elle Wall won the gold medal with a time of 13.30 seconds. She was followed by Evelynn Gonzalez (12th/14.22s) and Raylinn Aguilera (25th/15.12s). Wall also won the silver medal in the 100 Meter Hurdles with a time of 16.33s.
In the 200 Meter Dash, Layla Mata won bronze with a time of 27.05 seconds, while Aguilera came in 23rd with a time of 31.05s.
In the 400 Meter Dash, Julieta Ruiz came in 7th place with a time of 1:06.09 minutes followed by Nicole Sanchez (8th/1:06.19m) and Isabella Betancourt (20th/1:10.92m).
In the 800 Meter Run, Mata came in 4th place with a time of 2:25.97 minutes, and Lizbeth Perez came in 5th with a time of 2:33.53m.
In the 300 Meter Hurdles, Madilynn Zamaron came in 4th place with a time of 54.80 seconds, and Sahara Gonzalez came in 6th with a time of 55.13s.
In the field events, Wall picked up two more gold medals in the High Jump (6’-2.00”) and the Long Jump (16’-10.00”).
In the Triple Jump event, Isabel Ochoa came in 8th place with a distance of 31’-0.25”.
In the Pole Vault event, Jackie Nava came in 4th place with height of 7’-6.00”.
In the Shot Put event, Escarlett Urrutia won gold with a distance of 37’-9.00”, followed by Precious Vasquez (Bronze medal/33’-5.50”) and Sandra Martinez (13th/27’-5.00”).
The PI tracks teams will be back in action on March 27-28 during the Meet of Champions track meets held in Weslaco (girls) and Harlingen (boys).
