Special to the PRESS
The El Paseo Arts Foundation will present a tribute to The Beatles with “Lucy’s Diamonds,” performing April 20–21 at the South Padre Island Convention Centre.
The show will take audiences on a musical journey through The Beatles’ chart-topping era, featuring songs from 1962 to 1970, including hits such as “From Me to You,” “Help!,” “Let It Be,” and selections spanning albums like Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Abbey Road, and Rubber Soul. A slideshow of period photography highlighting 1960s pop culture, fashion, and art will accompany the performance.
The tribute band, Lucy’s Diamonds, is made up of lifelong Beatles fans and veteran musicians. Guitarist and vocalist Rick Peña began performing in the Austin music scene in the 1970s and credits seeing A Hard Day’s Night as his introduction to The Beatles. Guitarist and vocalist Doug Peña studied music theory and studio engineering and began performing Beatles music in the mid-2000s. Drummer and vocalist John Powell, who cites Ringo Starr as a major influence, began playing drums as a child before continuing through school band programs. Bassist and vocalist Scott Broberg began playing bass in the 1990s and was first inspired by The Beatles after watching them on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964.
Tickets are $30 for general admission, $25 for El Paseo Arts members, and $10 for students. A special promotion offers discounted tickets at SOS for $20 each (up to two tickets) for those who mention “I love the Beatles,” with the same offer available at the door.
The lobby opens at 6:30 p.m. with a cash bar, and the show begins at 7:30 p.m.
