Family-owned Shoreline Barbell Club will celebrate six years in business this June as the Alanis family continues building a gym focused on fitness, community and healthy living.
Co-owner Mauricio Alanis operates the gym alongside his brother Luis after the business was passed down from their father, who has worked in the fitness industry for more than 20 years.
“We are a family operated business with myself Mauricio and my brother Luis being the head of operations,” Alanis said. “This business had been passed down to us by our father who has been in the gym industry for over 20 years.”
Alanis said the gym was created to provide a welcoming space for people of all ages and fitness levels, from beginners to experienced lifters.
“Shoreline Barbell Club is a space for people of all backgrounds,” he said. “From beginning to advanced lifters, seniors to teenagers, cardio fanatics to weight lifters, we serve everyone.”
Beyond fitness, Alanis said the family works to create an environment where members feel supported and comfortable.
“People who have been a part of the gym here now have become part of the family,” he said. “We try to bring that welcoming and caring environment to keep everyone safe and comfortable.”
The gym’s mission, he said, centers on encouraging healthier lifestyles throughout the Port Isabel community while continuing to welcome new residents moving into the area.
“We hope to help people build healthier and better habits for themselves,” Alanis said. “We want to keep the community active and hope to continue to be a good example of it for the generations to come.”
For the summer season, Shoreline Barbell Club plans to offer student specials and family bundle packages designed to encourage parents and children to stay active together. The gym also offers personal training for all fitness levels, along with yoga and mobility classes. For more information, call 956-778-0360.
