This Tuesday, May 12 the Port Isabel Early College High School athletic program held their annual Spring Sports Awards Night ceremony. Dozens of student athletes who participated in Basketball, Soccer, tennis, baseball, softball, track and field, golf, powerlifting, Silver Belles dance team, and cheerleading were recognized and awarded for their efforts on the fields and courts.
The night started off with recognizing the Special Olympics participants, Charlie Castro, Aaron Cesenes, Jane Delgado, Alexandra Gonzalez, Francisco Gonzalez, Molly Hathaway, Daniel Moncivaiz, Geremmy T. Morales, and Gracie Ramirez.
In boys’ basketball the following athletes were recognized, Elijah Alvarez, Marcos Baldovinos, Robert Grayson Estes, Shiloh Galvan (3rd Team All-Valley), Christian Garcia, Willy Mosqueda, Aiden Ramos (All District Defensive Player of the Year, All Valley Defense), Jesus Ramos, Bryan Ramirez, Bryan Martinez, and Alvardo Rocha.
In girls basketball the following athletes were recognized, Raylinn Aguilera, Chelsea Hernandez, Andrea Le Blanc, Mia Lopez, Layla Mata (32-4A Newcomer of the Year), Escarlet Urrutia (32-4A Defensive POY), Precious Vasquez (32-4A Co-Offensive POY), Elle Wall, and Maria Vela.
In individual tennis, Angelina Delgado, Genniva Erazo ( 32-4A Newcomer of the Year), Quinton Flores, Maya Garcia, Noe Hernandez, Diego Lara, Dannai Limon, Jade Marquez, Yeshua Martinez, Rolando Reyes, Valeria Ruis (Singles Champion & Regional Qualifier), and Santiago Sanchez were recognized.
In boys’ soccer, Ivan Callejas, Rigo Cordova, Obed Dominguez, Slater Ferral, Kevin Garcia, Christian Hernandez, Derrick Herrera, Jesus Ortiz, Domenic Roustand, Angel Rios, Mikel Sosa, Jose Trejo, Manuel Trejo, Edgar Ulloa, Luis Ulloa (All District Defensive MVP), Eli Vasquez, Mason Vasquez, and Christopher Villalobos were recognized.
In girls soccer, Marishka Baston, Evolet Camacho, Angely Diaz, Saraha Gonzalez, Evelyn Gonzalez, Juliana Grienier, Ximena Guevara, Liora Helforoush, Chelsea Hernandez, Avery Lee, Mia Lopez Brigette A. Cortez, Lucero Peralta, Valeria Ruiz, Itzel Vela, and Madilynn Zamarron were recognized.
In baseball, Elijah Alvarez, Robert G. Estes, Edward Garza, Larry Lohr, Bryan Martinez, Joseph Martinez, Aiden Mock, Miles Moore, Armani Reyna, Oro Rodriguez, Jerry Troncoso, and Mayson Vasquez were recognized.
In softball, Kaiden Aguiar, Ciara Barton, Zoey Baxter, Sabrina Caballero, Jaycee Canales, Amber Cruz, Isabella Betancourt, Isabell Jo Galvan, and Arianna Garcia, Brizada Martinez , Gariella Martinez, Isabel Ochoa, Lorraine Rodiguez, and Maria Vasquez were recognized.
In boys track, Eli Alavarez, Angel Dominguez, Christian Garcia, Jorge Garcia, Eli Garza, Tristen Green, Christian Hernandez, Kingston Lane, Joeseph Martinez, Ivan Median, Aiden Ramos, Luis Ramos, Alvaro Rocha, Aramani Reyna, Kadyn Sanchez, Mikel Sosa, and Jahi Vasquez were recognized.
In girls track, Raylinn Aguilera, Isabella Betancourt, Salma Carter, Angely Diaz, Sahara Gonzalez, Elizabeth Hamilton, Mia Lopez, Layla Mata (District Champion Hurdles), Sandra Martinez, Jacqueline Nava, Isabel Ochoa, Lizbeth Perez, Julieta Ruiz, Nicole Sanchez, Escarlet Urrutia (District & Area Champion in Discus and Shotput), Precious Vasquez, Itzel Vela, Elle Wall (District Champion in High Jump), and Madilynn Zamarron were recognized.
In girls Golf, Jimena J. Garcia, Milca C. Luna, Reyna Martinez, and Mariz Ramirez were recognized.
In boys golf, Tyler Alcocer, Ashton Beck, Justin Barroso, Edward Garza (Newcomer of the Year), Justin Garza (back-to-back District Champion, All District MVP), Jesus R. Hill, Kingston Lane, Oro Rodriguez, and Carter Taylor were recognized.
In boys powerlifting, Miguel Arano, Michael Finona, Ivan Gomez, Eric Gonzalez, Jesus R. Hill, Arnold Lopez (4th place State Medalist), Joe Perez, Juan Hernandez, and Jahi Vasquez were recognized.
In girls powerlifting, Daniela Alonso (5th place State Medalist), Natalissa Arambul, Isabella Betancourt, Daridna Garcia, Iyairy Guzman (5th place State Medalist), Brigette A. Cortez, Nataly Olmedo, Emily Orduna, Leann Shamlin, Saturn Trejo, and Maria Vasquez (2nd place State Medalist) were recognized.
In cheerleading, Daniela Alonso, Zoey Baxter, Kirin Cantu, Maria I. Cuevas, Isabella J. Galvan, Julieta Ruiz (Captain), Alyson Samaniego, Carolina Garcia (Co-Captain), Rio Mahan, Brylee Zurita, Madilynn Zamarron, Kaiden Aguilera, Isabella Bentancourt, Salma Carter, Liora Helforoush, and Layla Mata were recognized.
Alumna Daniella Murchison served as the guest speaker for the evening. During her time at Port Isabel High School, Murchison captured three State Championships in Shot Put before continuing her throwing career at Southern Methodist University.
