Squatting on a marshy trail in Aransas National Wildlife Refuge to photograph an alligator mud path, I turned and saw what had to be an eight-footer staring out from the brush and, I presume, waiting for me to move on. “Es ist ein Krokodil!! ” yelled a nearby German tourist. From a safe remove, we watched it lumber across the trail and down the slide into the water.For many Texans a drive along our southern shores is made in haste on the way to the sandy playgrounds of Port Aransas or South Padre Island. Except for a few spots, the roads that parallel the coastline do not hug the water in Pacific Coast Highway…
