LOS FRESNOS, TX— Incumbent Mayor Alejandro Flores announced his re-election campaign earlier this week.
In a lengthy social media post, Flores said he was “truly blessed and honored” to have served as the city’s mayor for the past six years, calling it one of the greatest privileges of his life.
He added that he and his family are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to help shape the future of the community they love.
“My journey as Mayor began during one of the most challenging periods in our nation’s history—the COVID-19 pandemic. As our parks faced possible closure and families were confined to their homes, I reflected on how I could better serve our community. It was then that I decided to run for Mayor,” Flores wrote in a Facebook post announcing his candidacy.
“When I first sought this office, my goal was simple: to attract more commercial businesses to Los Fresnos so our residents would enjoy greater opportunities, greater convenience, and a stronger local economy,” he remarked. “During my first term, I was proud to help bring Whataburger to our city. Today, it is a valued part of our community and a symbol of the progress we envisioned.”
He went on to add that over the past six years, he had the privilege of watching Los Fresnos grow and prosper by welcoming new businesses, including Wendy’s; seeing new residential neighborhoods take shape; investing in critical infrastructure; improving parks and public spaces; and continuing to build a city families are proud to call home.
“The future of Los Fresnos has never looked brighter,” he added.
What began as a desire to promote economic growth quickly became something much deeper for Flores—a genuine calling to serve the community, as he wrote.
“These six years have helped me grow not only as a leader but also as a person. They have taught me the importance of listening, collaborating, and always putting the people of Los Fresnos first,” he said.
Over the past six years, Flores said he has worked tirelessly to keep the community informed, celebrate its successes, and promote the local businesses that make Los Fresnos such a special place to live.
“I have always believed that every business, every community event, every volunteer, and every resident deserves recognition because together they are the heart and soul of our city,” he remarked.
He added that for the past six years, he has prioritized the City of Los Fresnos.
“Whether answering phone calls, responding to messages, attending community events, helping residents navigate difficult situations, or simply listening to someone who needed to be heard, I have always believed that being Mayor means serving people first,” Flores explained, adding that the work has never been an 8-to-5 responsibility but a commitment he has embraced every day with compassion, humility, and genuine love for the community.
“I have sought to lead with integrity, transparency, and the highest ethical standards. Every decision I have made has been guided by a simple question: Is this what is best for the people of Los Fresnos?”
That principle, he said, has shaped his service and will continue to guide him as long as he has the privilege of serving.
“None of what we have accomplished would have been possible without the support of our dedicated city council, our hardworking city staff, our volunteers, our local businesses, and, most importantly, the residents of Los Fresnos,” he added. “Every success we celebrate today is a team effort. Together, we have built a strong foundation, and together we can continue moving our city forward.”
Professionally, Flores has spent nearly two decades in the financial services industry, helping individuals and families prepare for retirement and build a secure financial future.
He has brought that same philosophy to City Hall by planning responsibly, making sound financial decisions, protecting taxpayer dollars, and working to ensure that Los Fresnos remains financially strong for generations to come, he said.
The Los Fresnos City Charter limits mayors to three consecutive terms. If re-elected, this will be Flores’s final opportunity to serve in office.
“This campaign is not about politics. It is about continuing the progress we have made together and ensuring that Los Fresnos remains a city where families can thrive, businesses can succeed, and future generations are proud to call home. There is still important work to be done, and I believe our best days are ahead,” he concluded.
