The Laguna Madre Men’s Softball league is the final stretch of the season as week 3 game concluded.
The Cantu’s team stayed unbeaten by sweeping both of its games on the night, improving to 6-0 and remaining at the top of the standings. Although, the Bandidos are hot on their after they too swept their opponents and sit alone in second place with a 5-1 record. The two teams will square off in the final week of the season in an 8 p.m. showdown.
On the opposite end of the standings, Brew Crew and Ballaholics entered Week 3 still searching for their first win. With the two teams facing off, one was guaranteed to break into the win column.
Heading into the bottom of the second inning of the tightly contested game, the Brew Crew was down to two outs, but had two baserunners on base. Daniel Martinez delivered in the clutch, ripping a hard-hit single to bring both baserunners and gave the Brew Crew an early 2-0 lead.
After a scoreless second inning, the Ballahollics tied the game up at 2-2 on a line drive hit towards the third baseline. The game continued to be competitive in the fourth inning behind some nice defensive plays by both teams.
The Ballahollics started to get hot in the fifth inning as the hits kept coming as they jumped out to a 9-2 lead. The Brew Crew made one final push in the seventh inning highlighted by an indoor homerun by Martinez, but they ultimately lost the game 9-5.
Coming in Hot (4-2) dropped down to third place after splitting its two games on the night. However, their lone win was significant, as it dropped the Swingers (3-3) into fourth place. Joining the Swingers in fourth is Hopper Haus (3-3) which has fallen into a slump after dropping its last three games. Texas Made (2-4) went 1-1 in the night and are in sixth place, followed by Ballaholics (1-5) and Brew Crew (0-6).
Once the July regular season concludes, all teams will advance to the league tournament, where final standings will determine the tournament seedings.
