Moments in Time is a collection of recovered newspaper briefs and other publications, compiled by local historian, Steve Hathcock, offering a look back at the history of the Rio Grande Valley.
Steve Hathcock is a local historian and a regular columnist for the Port Isabel South Padre Press. He has spent many years collecting and sharing the history of the Rio Grande Valley, as well as treasure hunting and formerly owning an Island-based bookstore.

A silver dollar minted in 1799 was donated to the March of Dimes Wednesday by G. A. Carter. The dollar will be “For Sale” during the remainder of the polio campaign, and will go to the highest bidder, “if he bids high enough,” Chairman Tom George added. A tentative price of $100 had been set on the rare coin.

Radio Station Aids
Bob Pinkerton, owner of radio station XEO, Matamoros Mexico, himself a victim of polio, announced Wednesday that the station’s time table could be shuffled to accommodate any organizations desiring to aid the March of Dimes with programs.
Pinkerton was stricken three months ago, and remained 18 days at the Edinburg polio clinic. He also offered the station’s talent as an aid to any program.
