Point Isabel Independent School District will bring back its student wellbeing platform, Pulse, beginning Sept. 9, with parents and guardians being given the option to opt their children out of participating.
The district announced the return of the program this week, saying the rollout is being conducted in accordance with Senate Bill 12 and its parental consent requirements.
Pulse is a student culture and wellbeing platform that uses brief weekly check-ins to give students an opportunity to communicate how they are doing and ask for help when needed. According to PIISD, the check-ins take approximately 60 seconds to complete.
“Pulse provides students with short, 60-second weekly wellbeing check-ins,” the district said in its announcement.
District officials said the program is intended to help staff respond more quickly when students need assistance while also identifying broader areas where changes could benefit students.
Among its stated goals, PIISD said Pulse provides “students with an easy way to ask for help” and allows the district to “respond to student needs in a timely manner.”
Information gathered through the platform can also help the district identify areas for improvement and make changes to programs, curriculum and resources based on student needs.
The return of Pulse comes as Texas school districts adjust to new requirements under Senate Bill 12, which places greater emphasis on parental involvement and consent regarding certain school services and activities.
PIISD is encouraging parents and guardians to review information about the platform before deciding whether their student should participate.
“We encourage our families to review the information provided to make an informed decision regarding their student’s participation,” the district said.
Families can review additional information about Pulse, including examples of questions students may receive, through Linewize’s Pulse parent information page.
Parents or guardians who do not want their student to participate may complete the district’s pulse opt-out form.
Pulse is scheduled to return to Point Isabel ISD campuses Sept. 9.
