Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church will hold its annual Bazaar Fundraiser this weekend, continuing a longtime Port Isabel tradition that brings parishioners and members of the Laguna Madre community together while raising money for the church.
The bazaar is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, from 6-10 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 27, from 5-9 p.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St. in Port Isabel.
The two-day event will feature food, live music, games and raffles and is open to the public.
For many longtime parishioners, the annual bazaar has become a multigenerational tradition, with families returning each year while introducing younger members to the event.
“Our bazaar is a joyful expression of who we are as a parish,” Parish Administrator Rev. Mauricio Rodriguez said. “It gives people a chance to come together and support the work that allows our church to continue serving the community.”
Proceeds from the fundraiser help support the parish and its programs serving the local community.
Volunteers play a significant role in organizing and operating the annual event, assisting with food preparation, welcoming attendees, games and other activities throughout the weekend.
Our Lady Star of the Sea serves a bilingual Catholic congregation in Port Isabel and provides Masses, pastoral services and other support to parishioners throughout the area.
Rodriguez said the annual fundraiser also provides an opportunity for people outside the parish to gather with longtime residents and church members.
“This event reminds us that the Church is not only something we attend,” Rodriguez said. “The Church is something we build together through faith and service.”
Organizers emphasized that attendance is not limited to church members. Residents and visitors throughout the Laguna Madre area are invited to attend regardless of whether they are parishioners.
“We invite everyone to come hungry, leave full of great food and blessings, and know they have supported a meaningful cause,” Bazaar Coordinator J. Victor Baldovinos said. “Bring your grandmothers, your tías, and all your family and friends as we renew cherished traditions and create unforgettable memories together.”
