BAYVIEW—A Bayview man is facing a murder charge following the death of his wife at  their home Sunday.

Cameron County Sheriff’s deputies and investigators responded to the 29000 block of Siesta Lane after receiving a 911 call. Upon arrival, authorities found 43-year-old Dulce Vargas unresponsive and suffering from multiple apparent injuries, including several to her face.

Emergency medical personnel pronounced Vargas dead at the scene. Justice of the Peace Juan Mendoza responded to the residence and ordered an autopsy as part of the investigation.

Authorities identified the person who called 911 as Vargas’ husband, 45-year-old Aldo Vargas. According to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office, Aldo Vargas told deputies that he and his wife had been involved in a verbal argument that later became physical.

Vargas was detained and taken to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. Investigators later determined there was probable cause to identify him as a suspect in his wife’s death.

Investigators said Vargas allegedly used an unidentified blunt object as the murder weapon.

Following the investigation, Vargas was arrested and booked into the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center on a charge of murder, a first-degree felony.

As of  Wednesday, Vargas remained in custody on a $100,000 bond, according to Cameron County jail records.

The investigation remains ongoing.
