PIECHS track teams compete in area meet – Port Isabel-South Padre Press

On Tuesday, April 16 the Port Isabel ECHS track teams traveled to Zapata to compete in the UIL 4A Area 31 & 32 track meet. Girls head coach Ceci Trejo was pleased with her team’s performance, and will be able to send a handful of athletes to the next round, “Our girls team performed very well, placing second overall behind Calallen, which was a big accomplishment for us.” Said coach Trejo. “We are advancing in several events. Competing in the 100 Meter Dash, Angely Diaz came in 7th place in the with a time of 14.34 seconds.

In the 200 Meter Dash, Elle Wall won the silver medal with a time of 26.88.

In the 400 Meter Dash, Lizbeth Perez came in 4th place with a time of 1:01.49 minutes, she was followed by Julieta Ruiz in 5th with a time of 1:07.11.

In the 800 Meter Run, Layla Mata came in 5th place with a time of 2:34.08.

In the 300 Meter Hurdles, Mata won gold with a time of 47.25, Sahara Gonzalez came in 6th with a time of 53.29, and Madilynn Zamaron came in 7th with a time of 53.73.

In the 4×100 Relay, the PI team (Perez, Itzel Vela, Diaz, and Wall) won silver with a time of 51.25, and the 4×400 Meter Relay team (Ruiz, Sanchez, Wall, and Perez) picked up another silver medal with a time of 4:12.55.

In the High Jump, Wall won the gold with a height of 5’-2”, and Mata came in 6th with a height of 4’-6”.

In the Long Jump, Wall won bronze with a distance of 17’-2.25”, while Mata came in 4th with a distance of 17’-0.25”, and Perez came in 8th with a distance of 15’-4”.

In the Triple Jump, Isabel Ochoa came in 6th with a distance of 32’-8.5”, and Vela came in 7th with a distance of 31’-4.25”.

In the Pole Vault, Jackie Nava came in 5th with a height of 7’-6”.

Wrapping up the field events, 2-time gold medalist Escarlett Urrutia was the champion of the Discus (115’-6”) and Shot Put (36’-4.75”) events.

In the boy’s division, Aidan Ramos came in 5th place in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 51.98 seconds.

In the 1600 Meter Run, Jorge Garcia came in 7th place with a time of 4:55.62 minutes.

In the 300 Meter Hurdles, Christian Garcia came in 7th place with a time of 46.21.

In the 4×100 Meter Relay, the PI team came in 7th place with a time of 45.54.

In the 4×200 Meter Relay, the PI team came in 7th place with a time of 1:37.66.

The PI 4×400 Meter Relay team not only snapped its streak of seventh-place finishes, but did so in impressive fashion by capturing the gold medal in the 4×400 Meter Relay with a time of 3:32.57.

In the Long Jump, Tristan Green came in 4th place with a distance of 20’-6.75”, and right behind him was Ramos who came in 5th with a distance of 20’-1”.

In the Discus, Jahi Vasquez won bronze with a throw of 139’-0”. Vasquez then came in 4th place in the Shot Put event with a throw of 42’-.025”.

Athletes that finished in the top four positions will be advancing to the Regional Meet to be held on May 1-2 at Texas A&M University in Kingsville.
